In 1917, the Seattle Metropolitans became the first American team to win the Stanley Cup. They were also the first team to have a player killed in action during World War I.

The Metropolitans were a team of mostly Canadian players who had come to Seattle to play in the Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA). The PCHA was a professional hockey league that operated in the western United States and Canada from 1911 to 1924.

The Metropolitans were a dominant team in the PCHA, winning the league championship four times in six years. They were also the first team to win the Stanley Cup, which is awarded to the champion of the National Hockey League (NHL) and the PCHA.

The Metropolitans' success was due in large part to the талант of their players. The team was led by Frank Foyston, a scoring machine who was one of the best players in the NHL. Other key players included Bernie Morris, a hard-hitting defenseman, and Hap Holmes, a talented goaltender.

The Metropolitans' Stanley Cup victory was a major moment in American hockey history. It was the first time that an American team had won the championship, and it helped to pave the way for the NHL to become the world's premier hockey league.

However, the Metropolitans' triumph was short-lived. The United States entered World War I in 1917, and many of the team's players enlisted to fight. Foyston was one of the first to go, and he was killed in action in France in 1918.

The loss of Foyston was a devastating blow to the Metropolitans. The team struggled to find a replacement for him, and they never regained their former glory. The Metropolitans folded in 1924, and they have been largely forgotten by hockey fans.

The story of the Seattle Metropolitans is a reminder of the sacrifices that were made by so many during World War I. It is also a reminder of the important role that hockey has played in American history.

In 2017, the Seattle Kraken were founded as an expansion team in the NHL. The Kraken are the first NHL team to be based in Seattle since the Metropolitans folded in 1924.

The Kraken have adopted the Metropolitans as their inspiration, and they have honored the team's legacy by wearing throwback jerseys and playing games at Climate Pledge Arena, which is located on the site of the Metropolitans' former home arena.

The story of the Seattle Metropolitans is a reminder that hockey is more than just a game. It is a sport that can bring people together, inspire hope, and help us to remember the sacrifices that have been made by so many.
