The Wright brothers were born in Dayton, Ohio, in the 1870s. They were the sons of Milton Wright, a bishop in the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, and Susan Catherine Koerner Wright. The Wrights had three other children: Reuchlin, Lorin, and Katharine.

The Wright brothers were homeschooled by their mother until they were old enough to attend public school. They were both excellent students and showed an early interest in science and engineering. Wilbur Wright attended Oberlin College for two years, but he left before graduating to help his father with the family business.

Orville Wright also attended Oberlin College, but he dropped out after one year to work with his brother in the family business. The Wright brothers were avid cyclists, and they opened a bicycle shop in Dayton in 1892. Their business was successful, and it gave them the financial resources to pursue their interest in aviation.

The Wright brothers began experimenting with gliders in 1899. They built and tested a series of gliders, and they gradually improved their design. In 1900, they built their first full-size glider, which they flew successfully over a distance of 300 feet.

In 1901, the Wright brothers began working on a powered airplane. They built a wind tunnel to test their designs, and they developed a lightweight engine. In 1903, they built their first powered airplane, which they named the Flyer I.

On December 17, 1903, the Wright brothers made history when they flew the Flyer I for 12 seconds at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. This was the first successful powered, sustained, and controlled airplane flight.

The Wright brothers' achievement was a major breakthrough in the history of aviation. It opened the door to the development of modern airplanes and made it possible for humans to fly.
