Early life and career

Roderick Haig Brown was born in Victoria, British Columbia, in 1888. He grew up in a wealthy family, and he attended private schools in England and Canada. After graduating from Oxford University, Brown returned to Canada and began working as a journalist.

In 1914, Brown enlisted in the Canadian army and served in World War I. He was wounded in action, and he was awarded the Military Cross for his bravery.

After the war, Brown returned to journalism. He worked for several newspapers and magazines, and he also wrote several books about his experiences as a soldier.

Conservation work

In the 1930s, Brown became increasingly interested in conservation. He wrote several articles about the importance of protecting the environment, and he helped to found the British Columbia Wildlife Federation.

In 1945, Brown was appointed to the Canadian government's Fisheries Research Board. He served on the board for many years, and he played a key role in the development of Canada's fisheries management policies.

Brown was also a strong advocate for the protection of forests. He helped to found the Canadian Forestry Association, and he served as its president for many years.

Literary career
