John Gierach is a fly fisherman, writer, and photographer. He is the author of more than twenty books on fly fishing, including the bestsellers Trout Bum and Sex, Death, and Fly Fishing. Gierach has also written for numerous magazines and newspapers, including Field & Stream, Sports Illustrated, and The New York Times.

Gierach is a member of the Fly Fishing Hall of Fame and the Outdoor Writers Hall of Fame. He lives in Colorado with his wife and two dogs.
