Early Life and Nationalism

Subhas Chandra Bose was born in Cuttack, Odisha, on January 23, 1897. A brilliant student, he earned a degree in philosophy from the University of Calcutta. From a young age, Bose was deeply affected by the plight of his country under British rule. He joined the Indian National Congress and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a prominent figure in the nationalist movement.

Break with Gandhi and the Formation of the INA

Bose's political views often clashed with those of Mahatma Gandhi, who advocated for nonviolent resistance. Disillusioned by Gandhi's approach, Bose resigned from Congress in 1939. With the outbreak of World War II, Bose saw an opportunity to fight for India's freedom with the help of Axis powers. He escaped from India in 1941 and traveled to Germany, where he established the Indian National Army (INA).

Military Exploits and Independence Struggle

The INA, composed of Indian prisoners of war from British army, fought alongside the Axis forces against the British. Bose led his troops with unwavering bravery and determination, capturing significant territories in Burma and eastern India. However, the tide of the war turned against the Axis, and the INA's advances were halted.

Post-War Disappearance and Legacy

After the war ended, Bose's whereabouts became a subject of intense speculation. According to some accounts, he died in a plane crash in August 1945. However, various conspiracy theories have emerged over the years, claiming that he survived and lived incognito for decades. The mystery surrounding Bose's disappearance remains unresolved, adding to his enigmatic legacy.
